On May 29, 2024, I walked with DDOT and several other stakeholders to discuss proposed changes to 6th and Fairmont following the death of Mohamed Samura. I was happy to see the many changes that will be made in order to improve safety, and the ANC had previously passed a resolution urging quick implementation. However, I am frustrated that DDOT took so long to implement these changes given that they had done a safety walk previously for this intersection. Frequently, much need changes to our roadway do not happen until someone dies. It should not take a death to make our streets safer.

In addition to that intersection, I called out the need for safety improvements on Euclid and Georgia (improving visibility with Howard Elementary at Miner Building coming online in the fall), Howard and Georgia (improve visibility due to frequent crashes involving students), and Barry and Georgia (one of the more dangerous interesctions in DC when traveling by bike).

I will continue to advocate for safer streets during my time as an ANC.
